the one that's kicking my rear

Adam and Eve samplers are really my thing. I like them a LOT. And when I saw this one from Scarlett Letter and fell in love with it, my friend Sharon got it for me as part of a Christmas present. That was in 2006 and during 2007 I worked on outlining...as all of the creatures along with A & E are outlined in black cross stitch, and then filling in. I was "oh so happy" to be nearing the end of it and told my friend Siobhan (who had already completed hers), "oh I'm so happy! I only have the verse left to do and then it's DONE"!

Well, she already knew what I didn't....that the verse is a MAJOR pain....

and as I was happily outlining (with backstitch) the verse, happy thoughts and songs filled my head....

and then. and then....work began on filling in the verse with satin stitches...

and curse words soon filled the air...

just as Siobhan was writing back to say "good luck with that verse, it's a real doozy"....

The above is as far as I made it before throwing it down in disgust. I felt so betrayed. To be honest, I was thinking...wow, this piece looks just fine without the verse, maybe I can just rip it out....but dang, the verse makes it...

so anyway, that's where I left off and I haven't touched it in about two weeks...

but it is calling my name

I'm trying to forgive it and move on, but it's hard....

Andrea, I feel your pain-truly I do. But, you knew there was a but coming-this peice is simply too stunning for you to put aside. Think positive and how wonderful it will be when done. I love it and your stitching looks amazing.

Wow! Andrea! This is gorgeous. Just think how much you have already accomplished on this sampler. It will truly be a masterpiece when you are finished.

This piece is absolutely wonderful. I think it will still be marvelous even if you don't fill in the words with satin stitches. How about backstitch them and leave the inside blank or fill with regular cross stitch, it will still be wonderful!

Andrea it's looking great and you've almost crossed the finish line. Yeah, yeah the PITA satin stitch is still left to do, but you know if you don't finish this you'll be kicking yourself. Maybe if you just do one strand at a time between other stitching it won't seem quite so painful.

Andrea, it's too pretty to put it aside!! You can do it! Just grit your teeth, throw in those stitches and when it's done you will love the sampler even more than before. I thought the same thing, too--maybe I could just leave the verse off!?! It is such a pita. Satin stitch is fine but I guess the outline and the curvy letters make it so hard to get the needle through & for the stitches to look good. Remember, you have the CHS A&E to do soon, too! ;)

Andrea,

Your A & E looks fabulous and I know you can get those letters stitched... please, you have to stitch those letters.

I've just started my AAWFAP and I haven't gotten too far... still in the upper left hand corner stitching the black outline of the cloud.

Now please... you need to finish so that I will be inspired to continue stitching this piece.... and I need the encouragement to know that I can get through those dratted letters.

Be my hero Andrea....

Why is the verse hard to do???
Because the thread is satin?
I think it looks great!!! :-)
I wonder why they spelled Apple w/ an i?

Hey . . . did you ever get that other framed piece fixed where you didn't like the white showing through the dark?

XOXO

personally i hate satin stitches.
why not leave it as it is? i think it looks cool with just the word AND filled in and the rest of the verse outlined. who's to know that's not how its to be?

i say do with it what you want! make it your own! :)

What a gorgeous piece! I love Adam & Eve samplers too. I have to admit that I hate satin stitching, mine never looks good and it is such a pain. Maybe just do a letter at a time and it won't be so bad.

I cannot wait to see this piece completed. If anything has made me want to run out and purchase a new project, it's your pictures of this one! I, too, love Adam & Eve samplers, and I love this one. Hang in there--you know it will be gorgeous!
