be kind

My shoulder and hands have still been giving me trouble, so not much to show in the stitching department. Even this tiny finish had to be mounted in Q-Snaps and then to my lap frame in order for me to finish it....

This is from the chart, "Be True, Be Kind" by Homespun Elegance

it is teeny tiny, measuring just 2 1/2 inches high by 2 inches wide

my favorite part of stitching this was doing the colonial knots, I've never been good at French knots, these are much easier for me :-) My friend Jan (hi Jan!) once filled in, with french knots, the whole area of a bunny tail on a design for me, that's how much I disliked doing French knots, and that's how good of a friend she is...to jump in and do somethin' that you *hate* for you :-) Luckily for me, since she moved to another state, I learned how to do the Colonial knot, and actually enjoy it! But she's still missed. A lot!

So anyhoo, getting lots of stuff done around the house since I can't stitch...organizing the stitching closet, getting ideas going about paint colors for the dining room, kitchen, sun room....DH is all over the idea, helping chose colors. He's also been full of energy and happy about doing lots of stuff around the house, lucky me! I think he's feeling a lot better these days and I'm so thankful for that!

I've also been thinking about changing my blog name. When I first started this blog, I was really into cupcakes, and when trying to think of a blog name, thought of all sorts of crazy things....anyway, I think we'd just been to the State Fair of Texas, and you all know one thing State Fairs are good for is coming up with different things to DEEP FRY every year, so that was fresh in my mind as well. Hence, Deep Fried Cupcake. Do you know, I just thought that was such a random thing, but it's really NOT! There IS such a thing as a deep fried cupcake, if you google it, you will see for yourself. One site made me laugh, it's called something like "this is why you're fat" and showed a picture of an actual deep fried cupcake!

SO yeah, I'm thinking maybe I should change the name....is it just too silly and random for a "stitching/pug/baking/who really cares" blog? Your thoughts?

Do you have a Flickr account with Deep Fried Cupcake as the name? I just added a few Shepherd's Bush things and thought it might be you! I absolutely LOOOOVE your blog name, *but* if you are sick of it I can understand wanting a change. However, I think it's cute and perfect, and so easily remembered. Your little bird is just precious and those Colonial Knots are gorgeous. I've not used them yet, but they sure are pretty!

I think your blog name is a real eye catcher! I love your little wee bird and the colonial knots are perfect. And I hear you about a friend moving away - you miss them every day.

I've been reading your blog for awhile now and always wondered about the name! It sure is one of a kind so maybe you should keep it.

Adore the bird. I don't like French knots either so I'll have to try the Colonials. Thanks for the tip!

This is my first visit to your site and do you know why I stopped by? The NAME!!! I was looking at someone's blog list and your name caught my eye and I had to check it out! So, you can change it, but I personally think it's catchy and intriguing. I had to laugh at the site saying "this is why you're fat!"

I love your stitching, too. I have never heard of a Colonial Knot - I'll have to look it up. I don't really mind doing French knots. The bird is just adorable!

Andrea, Girl, don't you DARE change the name of your blog, it is a wonderful name, and it really helps people, (well, me especially, lol) recognize you easily. You do have a great husband if he is all excited about the painting and all, better hang on to him. Your little finish is so adorable. I'm sorry you're in pain, take it easy so you can get back into prime stitching condition.

Andrea, BTW, I have not yet figured out how to do a colonial knot, I can do French knots, but don't really like them.

What a sweet finish! I am so sorry you are having such trouble stitching. I hope that your pain eases soon. I love your blog name and I wouldn't change it. I think random blog names (like mine) are great.

SOrry to hear that your shoulders and hands are bothering you and keeping you from stitching. Your little bird is very pretty. I've followed your blog a little while and always wondered how you got the name! I like it!

Hi Andrea, sorry your shoulder and hands are still giving you trouble. Be Kind is very pretty. I love your blog name-it is unique and I wish I had been so original when naming mine. I say keep it!

I'm adding my vote for you to keep your blog name. I recognize the name as yours immediately. Not sure I would with a new one, and this one is unique.

Sorry to hear about your hand and shoulder issues. Hope you bounce back soon!! In the meantime, your finish is adorable. I've got such a thing for bird patterns, and this one is no exception! Nice job.

Lovely finish Andrea. With all the pain you still managed all that stitching. I hope you feel better soon. A blog name is such a personal thing. It usually has a hidden meaning and I think if you need a change only you could come up with the next original name. I like Deep Fried Cupcake. A blog name is also a bit your identity so if you need a new identity why not!

Andrea -- your blog name is SO FUN!!! I'm sorry you are feeling bad and I hope you get to feel better soon. Cute little birdie...take gentle care!

You could change it to Deep Fried Mars Bars, or Deep Fried Bounty Bars. I think they have them in Scotland and maybe all over the UK. Nah, keep your catchy name.

The stitching is really cute. I hope you feel better soon!

It may be a small design, but it is so pretty! I love how your Colonial knots look.

I like your blog name. It stays in the mind, and every time I see something that has to do with cupcakes I think of you first. I would keep it if I was you.

Hey, I like your blog name, but can understand if you are tired of it. It's your prerogative if you decide to change it... but you know, NOT limiting it to a stitchy name gives you the freedom, I think, to talk about pugs, stitching, cooking, whatever. Cupcakes. Deep fried. Yumm.

Love the finish! I hope you're feeling better. (((((((Andrea)))))) I can't wait to see the paint job!

Adorable finish Andrea! I agree with the others, I too, love your blog name, but it's your choice of course if you feel like changing it! :)

I'm so sorry your shoulders and hands have been giving you trouble. Have you tried stitching in hand?

oh girl! you're too funny! I like your blog name! did you know at the cowboy breakfast a few weeks ago in San Antonio, they were serving chicken fried bacon?!!! I heard it was sooo good! You know how we batter and deep fry everything here? Yep, battered and deep fried bacon! Heart attack waiting to happen!

Your little stitched piece is adorable and you did a fabulous job on those knots!! I stink at the french ones, but never heard of the colonial ones! I'm off to learn something new:) Thanks for sharing and inspiring! I hope you continue to feel better:)

I love your stitching! That is just too cute.
As for your blog name, I remember several years ago when I was blogging and then I left and now I am back, your blog is one of those that I remembered because of the name! I love the name, it is different and no one else is going to have the same name. Now that I know the story behind it, it is even better!!

Just wanted to stop by and say hello! Actually your blog name, is what 'drew me'! But I know what it is about a woman's prerogative! Do what makes you feel good, that is what I think!

I love your little finish, and whatever is making you ouchie, I hope it is much better really, really soon!
